because although climate change disproportionately affects women, it has female solutions.
CLIMATE CHANGE IS NOT GENDER NEUTRAL
“Gender inequalities intersect with climate risks and vulnerabilities. Women’s historic disadvantages — their limited access to resources, restricted rights, and a muted voice in shaping decisions — make them highly vulnerable to climate change.” - (Human Development Report 2007/08).
“Climate change is a man-made problem with a feminist solution" - (Mary Robinson, 2018).
In this blog I do not only want to look at the reasons women are more affected by environmental issues but also specifically at where environmental and women activism intersects. Women are huge part of the solutions, adaptions and mitigation for environmental issues and currently gendered approaches are flourishing across many disciplines.
I am a final year student at UCL, and this blog is for the purposes of 'Global Environmental Change' and in this blog I want to combine my passions for climate change action and women's rights in an academic way.
